ESE Type Lightning Protection System

Category: Earthing System

ESE Type Lightning Protection System

Main Components of the ESE System 1. ESE Air Terminal The primary lightning interception component installed at a suitable elevated position. 2. Mounting Mast & Support Provides the required height and mechanical support for the air terminal. 3. Down Conductor Provides the preferred conductive path for carrying lightning current from the air terminal towards the earth termination system. 4. Test Joint / Test Link Allows inspection and testing of the down-conductor and earth connection. 5. Lightning Event Counter (where specified) Used to record lightning events passing through the system. 6. Earth Termination System Provides the final path for dissipating the lightning current into the earth. Proper earthing design is essential to the performance of the complete LPS.

During a thunderstorm, electrical conditions develop between the cloud and ground. As a downward lightning leader approaches a structure, the ESE terminal is designed to initiate an upward streamer earlier than a conventional air terminal under comparable conditions. The upward streamer provides a preferred interception point for the lightning discharge. The captured lightning current is then conducted through the down conductor to the earth termination system, where it is safely dispersed into the ground . Applications ESE lightning protection systems are suitable for: - High-Rise Buildings - Commercial Buildings - Industrial Plants - Factories & Warehouses - Hospitals & Institutions - Schools & Universities - Government Buildings - Residential Complexes - Telecom Towers - Solar & Renewable Energy Facilities - Sports Grounds & Open Areas - Heritage Structures & Monuments - Storage & Utility Facilities

Overview

Sulah Safe Solution’s ESE Type Lightning Protection System is designed to provide a defined interception point for direct lightning strikes and safely conduct lightning current to the earth through a controlled low-impedance path. The system uses an Early Streamer Emission (ESE) Air Terminal, which is designed to initiate an upward streamer earlier than a conventional rod under comparable conditions. The resulting protection radius is determined according to the applicable ESE methodology, including the terminal's tested ΔT value, installation height and selected protection level.

Key Features & Advantages

Designed for direct lightning strike interception
Early Streamer Emission Technology
Protection radius calculated according to the applicable NF C 17-102 methodology
Can be integrated with a properly designed earthing and bonding system
